JOB SUMMARY:

The Direct Care Staff (DCS) will provide general supervision of residents in accordance with the policies of the Stella Maris Growth Center (SMGC) facility. DCS will be tasked with maintaining basic disciplinary and behavioral control of the residents while in the home. DCS will supervise residents during agency approved activities and will provide trauma informed care and supervision. DCS will collaborate with residents regarding daily domestic and maintenance obligations expected of them (i.e., cleaning room, making beds, dusting furniture, mopping floors, assisting in mealtime setup and cleanup procedures, etc.). DCS will assess the resident clothing needs and personal hygiene supplies in addition to administering first aid as well as medications when required and as permitted by facility policies. DCS will be required to maintain documentation of activities, safety checks, assist in lights out procedures, as well as in other security, maintenance and/or safety measures deemed necessary. DCS will promote the participation of treatment-oriented group sessions and work with clinicians/therapists in support of resident treatment plans. Lastly, DCS are required to attend staff routine training and are responsible for transporting residents to authorized appointments and outings.

Direct Care Staff Job Duties

  • Provide general supervision of residents in accordance with the policies of the facility.
  • Maintain basic disciplinary and behavioral control of the residents, observing them closely and stimulate the residents’ interest in various activities and programs provided by the facility and supervise their participation in those activities.
  • Attempt to ease the adjustment of each resident to placement at the facility by means of personal contact and counseling techniques.
  • Assign and supervise the residents in various daily maintenance tasks expected of them (i.e., cleaning room, making beds, dusting furniture, mopping floors, assisting in mealtime setup and cleanup procedures).
  • As assigned, eat with the residents, supervising general mealtime behavior and manners.
  • Encourage and supervise the proper performance of residents’ daily personal hygiene tasks.
  • Administer first aid as required, and administer medication as permitted by the policies of the facility.
  • Note daily activities in the unit logs, including references to at least the following intake and release statistics (separate log book), safety and security checks, and unusual or problematic behaviors on the part of the residents, arrival and departure of any persons who visit the residents, and any other pertinent information.
  • Assist in “lights out” procedures at night, as well as in other security, maintenance and/or safety measures deemed necessary.
  • Assess residents’ clothing needs and personal hygiene supplies; write reports.
  • Participate in group sessions employing the treatment model of the facility, and work with the assigned clinician/therapist with specific treatment plans for each resident.
  • Transport residents to appointments (medical, dental), school or community group outings and designated locations. Direct Care Workers must possess or obtain a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Ensure that each resident is properly prepared and arrives at school on time.
  • Supervise each resident’s return from school.
  • Perform necessary household cleaning and upkeep.
  • Attend staff training sessions as required and as scheduled.
  • Complete and document food inspection logs
  • Centrally Store all Medication; assist in medication administration
  • Conducts a check of First Aid Kit contents for completion.
  • Conducts facility checks for maintenance problems
  • All other duties as assigned.
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

All incumbents of this position must be able to perform the minimum requirements of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Rules and guidelines for STRTP operations.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Residential / community–based mental health care and trauma-related models of practice.
  • Social and mental health needs of at-risk youth.
  • Trauma-Informed Care in Behavioral Health Services, CCR Overview Requirements for Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program Providers and Mental Health Plan Clinical Documentation and Billing Manual.

SKILLS:

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    High School Diploma, Bachelor’s degree preferred.COMPUTER/OFFICE SKILLS REQUIRED: Word Processing; Excellent Writing Skills, General Office SkillsAs a condition of continued employment, must complete and accrue 40+ hours of in-service training within one (1) year of hire date.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Incumbents are required to meet standards set by the State of California Community Care Licensing: physical exam and health questionnaire; Tuberculosis screening clearance; Statement of Criminal Convictions; Child Abuse Index Check; and Department of Justice Fingerprint Clearance. Required to possess and maintain a current and valid California driver’s license, acceptable DMV record and maintain the California minimum vehicle comp and collision insurance.
