1. Assist youth with development of positive coping skills to increase positive prosocial behaviors.
2. Assist youth with integrating into society through identification of societal norms and values.
3. Provide youth with identification of psychosocial stressors and how to identify, implement, and utilize positive coping skills.
4. Foster an environment that supports educational and academic goals, behavioral, community and mental health supports.
5. Promote appropriate community linkages and contacts for youth and families (if applicable) to assess needs, strengths, and preferences that will assist with successful transition to lower levels of care.
1. Promote a culture of comfort for our youth and their families (if applicable). We implore our youth and facility staff to practice Trauma Informed Care principles to assist youth with achieving their goals, individualized services, and goals.
2. Identify practices that are re-traumatizing for youth to reduce possible placement disruptions and triggers. All of our staff are trained and well-versed in the utilization of practices that are in alignment with trauma informed care principles.
3. Provide facility staff with the necessary and appropriate training tools, strategies, and interventions to work with our youth. We utilize in house training, as well as outside providers with experience working with at-risk youth within the residential setting.
4. Transform the language that is used. At Stella Maris Growth Center, we use language that is respectful, courteous, and compassionate. It is our role as staff to be the example for our youth on incorporating language that is in alignment with trauma informed care principles.
5. Stella Maris Growth Center recognizes our role as caregivers and the opportunity for our youth to heal. We as the professionals must provide all youth who enter our program the chance to heal and implement positive interventions to decrease maladaptive behaviors.
